Summer holidays at Saimaa Lakeside

Summer holidays on Saimaa are varied and interesting.

Activities at Saimaa Lakeside complex

Every year in early May, the open water season begins. The lake is completely ice-free, and we prepare and launch our boats and a motor boat, and check the electric motors for correct (for those who did not know, we would like to point out that each Saimaa Lakeside cottage has its own pier and a boat with an electric motor is available at no extra charge).
The perfect time for fishing begins. You can read more about the available fishing options and rules here:

Our guests of Saimaa Lakeside Cottages can use:

  • bicycles (we provide several bicycles per cottage)
  • children's playground and sports ground
  • sports and games equipment (for ping-pong, basketball, volleyball, badminton, etc.).

Additionally it is possible to rent:

  • SUP boards
  • Boat

Mushrooms and berries in Finland

Saimaa Lakeside cottages are located in the forest, so you can pick mushrooms and berries directly at the house. Mushrooms start to appear ain early June, but the most mushroom time is usually August-September when it is foggy and rainy but still a warm weather.

  • strawberry (June)
  • blackberries (July-August)
  • cranberries (August-September)

Juhannus

Saimaa Lakeside cottages are the ideal place for Juhannus.
As the cottage complex is located on a peninsula, each cottage has its own shoreline and the cottages are far away from each other.
All cottages are equipped with electric saunas + there are additional wood-fired saunas on the beach. Some saunas are additionally equipped with a heated font, so you can bathe even if the weather is cool.
Each cottage has an excellent place for barbecue on the open fire + gas grill on the terrace of the cottage. And each terrace is equipped with summer furniture (tables and chairs). All this will allow you not only to prepare a festive dinner with pleasure and ease, but also to dine while enjoying the beautiful views of the lake. It will be an unforgettable Juhannus.
Reservations start early. Don't miss your chance.

Activities and attractions near Saimaa Lakeside:

1. Domestic Animal Forest Farm & fishing farm Korpikeidas ( https://korpikeidas.fi/ ) is located on 4 hectares of forest land and has about 100 pets. Here dads can spend time fishing at the trout farm. No special skills are required - the fish seem to “swarm’ in the local pond where a smokehouse will prepare fresh fish for dinner. While mums and children can watch animals walking freely around the area, the larger animals are kept in special enclosures. The inhabitants of the park can be fed and stroked, giving children an unforgettable experience. Sheep, chickens, roosters, rabbits, guinea pigs, gophers, turkeys, pigeons, emu ostriches and miniature pigs (minipigs) can be seen in the park. The park is open from mid-May to mid-September.

2. Kylpylä Spa Complex ( https://kylpylahotellit.fi/ ) in Imatra. You should definitely plan a whole day here in order to have time to visit all the proposed entertainment areas: a large and modern water park with a jacuzzi, waterfalls, heated outdoor pool, bowling, and spa treatments. Also on the territory there are cafes and restaurants where you can taste a delicious ice-cream and milkshakes.

3. Don't forget to visit the fortress, located on a beautiful peninsula near the centre of Lappeenranta. It is a real pride of the townspeople, as the view of the regal Saimaa and the charm of the old buildings give the fortress a magical atmosphere. The annual summer sand sculpture festival is also held here. Each year there is a new theme and new characters made of sand. The giant sculptures leave no one indifferent: neither big nor small visitors, who are delighted by the scale of the sculptors' creation.

4. If you like to feel the harmony of nature: the sound of water accompanied with the sound of music... Then go to admire the launching of the Imatrankoski rapids (https://g.co/kgs/KW8mN99 ), and maybe even cross it, flying over the rushing stream even upside down. You willl also find out the story why they didn't sell one-way ticket to Imatra before...

5. Saimaa Bike Park https://www.saimaabikepark.fi/
The trails are opened in the summer season on the site of the FreeSki ski slopes. The Saimaa Bikepark already has 16 trails of various difficulties for different levels of physical activity. If you don't have your own mountain bike, you can rent a suitable one here. This also applies to the rest of your equipment (helmet, elbow pads, kneepads, etc.). Interested in learning to ride a Downhill or Enduro bike? Saimaa bikepark has a school. Gather a group of 5 or more people and take basic riding lessons or improve your existing skills with an instructor. Apply in advance.
6. For lovers of outdoor activities, we recommend that you consider renting canoes, kayaks, mountain bikes and other equipment from our partners ( https://drakkarsport.com/ ).
