Top-5 restaurants in the South Karelia, Finland

Travelling through the Lakeland in the region of South Karelia, you will definitely think about trying the local cuisine. Do not even doubt that most local restaurants will offer you fish dishes, because fish is one of the main delicacies in Finland. Apart from fish dishes, there are also meat dishes that are worth trying. For those who appreciate Italian, Asian or fast food, there are also restaurants with the usual fare.
Whether in Imatra or Lappeenranta, do not forget to gather with friends in the Scandinavian-style interiors or on the terrace of one of the restaurants we recommend:

1. Café-restaurant on the territory of the Fishing Farm on Vuoksa River Wanha Virveli https://vuoksenkalastuspuisto.fi/

Located in a picturesque setting along the Vuoksa River. The menu À-la Carte features dishes from fish carefully farmed in our own pond. On request, you can order fish from our own smokehouse. The rich trout soup is particularly popular. As a dessert you can order salty ‘sweets’, prepared mainly from local products. It is also possible to hold your own event, corporate party or order catering at the restaurant.

From 1 October to 30 April the restaurant is open upon request only.

2. Restaurant Nuotta in Imatra https://www.ravintolanuotta.fi/

The best flavours of wild forests, wind of the sea and smells of meat steak or grilled salmon are gathered here... The concept of the restaurant is Scandinavian cuisine based on basic dishes from meat, fish, poultry and vegetables. There are variants of children's menu, vegetarian and gluten-free.
The restaurant is located near the Imatra SPA centre and 300 m from the beach. The restaurant can be visited with dogs. You can come here not only by car, but also by mooring a boat (permitted depth 4.2 m, max. 4 h mooring time).
This Finnish restaurant can accommodate groups of up to 800 people.

The restaurant's founders are members of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs association.

The restaurant is open on the Saturday before May Day until the first Saturday in September.

3. Restaurant Säräpirtti Kippurasarvi https://www.sarapirtti.fi/?lang=fi

This restaurant is the only restaurant in Finland that specializes in a single dish - särja. Traditionally cooked according to an old recipe, the lamb delicacy stewed in the oven for 9 hours is just melting in your mouth. We recommend to make the reservation in advance and order your menu the day before to avoid a wasted trip to the small town of Lemi in the neighboring region. Not so long time ago, visitors can take dried with you like a present from Finland.

4. Buttenhoff restaurant in Imatra dates back to 1936. It is a cosy place in the style of a French bistro with excellent European cuisine and a good selection of wines.

Café Julia is located on the first floor and the restaurant on the second floor. Guests appreciate the hospitality of the staff, high service and attentive attitude.

The restaurant offers a buffet and menu à la carte. On weekends, there is a more varied Grand Buffet menu. You can also order takeaway meals.
